ABOUT
Founded in 2011 in Namur, Belgium, KIKK is a non- profit association that promotes digital and creative cultures.
We create bridges between art, culture, science and technology through 4 major projects. First of all, the yearly KIKK festival, an event that has become well renowned on the international digital & creative scene.
Then, the KIKK is also a founding partner of TRAKK, the Creative Hub and Fab Lab of Namur, a space dedicated to cultural and creative industries as well as digital technologies.
The artistic production platform is also at the heart of KIKK’s activities. It feeds the other projects and especially the latest one; The Pavilion, a permanent exhibition space of 2.500 m2 nestled at the top of the Citadel of Namur.
The creative people that orbit the KIKK galaxy are working in a collaborative environment that favours openness, exchange and discovery. Our goals: to explore, question, experiment, compare, in cross-disciplinary way, the multiple uses of new technologies to prefigure the challenges of a world in motion.
TALES OF TOGETHERNESS
For this 11th edition, KIKK festival plunges us into the heart of what brings us together as human beings. The exhibition KIKK in Town, a journey of more than 60 works scattered throughout the city, highlights the universal languages that allow us to communicate and share across linguistic borders, cultural differences, origins and gender. According to certain mythological or religious traditions, there was once a unique and universal language spoken by all, shared by humans and supernatural beings. This universal language persists today, in another form, or rather, in multiple forms.
We exchange through our emotions, our empathy, our bodily expression. A love song, a frenzied rhythm, a sensual dance, a sad music, or simply a hand that touches you, are all elements that bring us together and allow us to share very strong feelings. It enable us develop a sense of belonging to a community. Empathy can not only transform our personal relationships, but also help to address societal challenges. This year’s festival celebrates diversity, universality, individuality and coexistence between human and non-human beings. “Man is a social animal”, this famous quote from Aristotle reminds us that it is human nature to come together with others to survive. Humans have created societies just like bees for this very reason. These links of coexistence with non-human beings can be discovered in the Biotopia exhibition at Le Pavillon, our new exhibition space perched on the hill overlooking Namur.
