For its 11th edition, the KIKK festival invites you on Thursday 27 October to take part in a unique taste and sound experience. 
The experience proposed by Unusual Ingredients is based on numerous researches crossing gastrophysics and sensory perception. 
Plunged into the darkness, a few ingredients in hand you will be carried away by a music with precise sound frequencies and calibrated musical gestures that will influence the sensation and flavor of each ingredient.
Sound that influences taste? Yes, that’s exactly the experience we’re offering you.

This experience will be followed by a 3 course dinner (drinks included) at the Brasserie de la Confluence.

Boston 168 (Italie) – Live :
Hailing from the Italian Motor City of Turin, the Boston 168 duo,is a kind of creative laboratory : true electronics researchers, who have spent years working on the vivisection of sound in order to create a new techno substance. In 2010 with their friend Gambo they created the Old and Young label which combines Gambo&#8217;s experience with their fresh perspective to take techno to unexplored territories. This is when they get to work on their live set and start irradiate with cosmic warmth, the dawns in warehouses, ex-industries and clubs, taking their audience on journeys in search new gravitational spaces and sonic black holes. Like the music on their label, their live sets combine the machines that have made the history of techno such as the TB-303 and the TR’s from Roland, with new machines from Elektron.
Phara – Live :
As a resident of the iconic Fuse Club in Brussels and the infamous Voltage Festival, Phara has been on the Belgian techno scene’s forefront since the start of his career in 2016. After releasing a 2 x 12” album on the renowned Black Sun Records following up on artists like Blawan, AnD, Sunil Sharpe &amp; many more, Phara has been continuously putting out dancefloor weapons on labels such as Planet Rhythm, Projekts, SK-Eleven and Soma.
In October 2021 he announced his first label PHAAAR, specially made to release his own productions. Known for his raw and energetic DJ sets, Phara takes a modern twist on old school techno. It shows up in his live performances which he’s been working on for a few years now : with only an ElecTribe as his only instrument on stage, he’s pushing the capacities of the machine to root a visceral techno out if it.
antoine. – DJ set :
antoine., is a DJ and producer from Namur (Belgium), curator of the T R U S T concept and member of the MOMENTUM collective. 
It was in 2011, in a dark marquee in Dour and in a euphoric atmosphere that antoine. got acquainted with techno music. 
The power of the basses, the repetitive and hypnotic rhythms, the sound textures&#8230; All these elements were new but already so natural to listen to. He is particularly attentive to the universe of Richie Hawtin, the undisputed master on the global minimal-techno scene.
In 2012, he bought equipment to tame music, understand it, to feel it. Love at first sight. In love with what technology offers him as a possibility, he quickly turns to a hybrid set-up that allows him greater creativity by integrating drum loops, live elements and sound layers into original tracks. He is now influenced by artists with singular, hypnotic and melancholic universes such as Shifted, Joachim Spieth, Etapp Kyle, Artefakt, Emmanuel or even P.E.A.R.L. In 2018, he became more interested in production and worked in his home studio to release his 2021 album “after. &#8220;.

With La bombe humaine, Éline Schumacher and Vincent Hennebicq put climate change at the heart of the debate. In a sincere, funny and intelligent approach, they explore all the facets of the crisis and hold up a mirror to our inconsistencies.
Melting ice, acidification of the oceans, disappearance of animal and plant species&#8230; One word alone sums up the impact of Man on the earth&#8217;s ecosystem: anthropocene. The era of human activities which, under the yoke of capitalism, is sacking the wealth of our planet. We know that we are heading straight for the wall, so why aren&#8217;t we doing anything to prevent it? This is the question that Éline asks herself, an average human being, full of ideals but also of contradictions like many of us.
Armed with a delightfully offbeat sense of humor that avoids moralizing, Éline and Vincent tackle the big question of the Earth&#8217;s future, multiplying encounters with scientists, anthropologists, psychologists, politicians and people with alternative lifestyles. The play is accompanied by music, a playwright&#8217;s guide, and a playwright&#8217;s guide. The play is a salvageable and incongruous plunge into the intimate face of a faltering humanity.
The play is accompanied by the original live music of Marine Horbaczewski and Olivia Carrère: the keystone of the show&#8217;s sound, which sometimes gives an air of apocalypse, sometimes a hint of spring to the performance.

The Barcelona designers of the “Remix el Barrio”, winner of the S+T+ARTS 2021 Prize, invite you to participate in a Food Waste Biomaterial Workshop.

TouchDesigner is a node based visual programming language for real time interactive multimedia content, developed by the Toronto-based company Derivative. It&#8217;s been used by artists, programmers, creative coders, software designers, and performers to create performances, installations, and fixed media works. 
For this workshop we will look at the basics of how to use the software and its numerous potentials for starting your own audiovisual creations.

Benjamin Coriat is a French economist specialising in industrial economics, innovation and intellectual property. He has a degree in philosophy and a doctorate in economics. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Paris-Nord and a member of the Economistes Atterrés. He is also the author of numerous publications on the theme of the commons, including &#8220;Le retour des communs: la crise de l&#8217;idéologie propriétaire&#8221; (The return of the commons: the crisis of proprietary ideology), &#8220;Propriété et communs: idées reçues et propositions&#8221; (Property and the commons: received ideas and proposals) and, more recently, &#8220;La pandémie, l&#8217;Anthropocène et le bien commun&#8221; (The pandemic, the Anthropocene and the common good).

The commons call for the collective management of shared resources. But more than that, the commons propose another way of inhabiting the world, emphasising the way in which we are all interconnected and thus inviting us to re-explore the notion of the common good. As territories of experimentation, what can the commons do for culture today? Can culture be crossed by their logic? If so, to satisfy what hopes? By overcoming what challenges? Let&#8217;s look together at the answers we can give to these questions.

Frederik De Bleser &amp; Lieven Menschaert are part of the The Algorithmic Gaze&#8217;s team.The applications of artificial intelligence are everywhere: just think of image recognition, recommendation algorithms, voice and face recognition algorithms, &#8230; In the arts, AI also leads to interesting results, however often by using powerful hardware or existing datasets, and thus beyond the reach or control of most artists.Our mission is to bring AI into the artist&#8217;s practice by developing open-source tools and methodologies that make the domain more accessible and transparent. Our research asks how AI can become a trusted partner in the creative process, both during creation and execution. We explore how AI understands the materiality of body, space and time. Our approach avoids megalomanic datasets; instead we focus on carefully self-assembled datasets and an intuitive visual understanding of algorithms to avoid the bias inherent in large-scale models and take ownership of our own &#8220;small AI.&#8221;Frederik De Bleser is a researcher and lecturer at Sint Lucas Antwerp. His research focuses on the connection between art and technology and the development of free software tools for generative design, data visualization and artificial intelligence.Lieven Menschaert is a researcher and lecturer at Sint Lucas Antwerp and LUCA school of arts. His main interest is in generative and computational design and thus sees AI and machine learning as the logical next step in a procedural generation practice.

The Algorithmic Gaze

Machine learning for creative purposes has progressed in leaps and bounds in the last years. But the whole process still feels like black magic. What does it take to train your own model? How do you even get started? And how can you use this process creatively?
During this workshop we&#8217;ll introduce some works made with creative AI and explore what it could mean for an artistic practice. We&#8217;ll go over the different steps on how to train an image-to-image model based on a dataset. The goal is to work together as a group to build one or two machine learning models.
This workshop is based on the research and tools developed by &#8220;The Algorithmic Gaze&#8221;, such as Figment, to get the data ready for training.
Participants should bring their own laptop. If you have an interesting, medium-size dataset (2000+ images) you can bring that as well.

Accurat is a new breed of full-service strategy and digital experience design firm, operating at the intersection of data, design, and technology. Accurat&#8217;s own methodology and working philosophy —Data Humanism— strives to reconnect data to what it represents: knowledge, behaviors, people.
Irene and Alessandro, Data Visualization Designers at Accurat, will be your facilitators for this workshop and will guide you through the process of translating data into personal and engaging experiences. They both have years of experience in designing static and interactive data visualizations that span from business analytics dashboards to augmented reality and physical space installations.

In this workshop, working alone or in a small team, you will learn how to use data to tell a story about the KIKK community. Irene and Alessandro will show you how to analyze the dataset collected from the collaborative installation created by Accurat for the festival and map it onto shapes and other visual elements with meaning. You will create a poster that portrays the KIKK community from your own unique perspective, using data!

Elliot Woods (UK) is a digital media artist from Manchester UK.
He graduated with a Masters from the School of Physics and Astronomy and entered the arts following the founding of studio Kimchi and Chips in 2009 where he currently tests alternative relationships between images and reality. Here he participates in conceptual and technical design of projects, and develops techniques in computer vision, machine learning and robotics. His works reveal the implicit nature of systems therein suggesting to audiences revelatory experiences about nature and reality. He has created large scale light field art installations which draw floating images of the sun out of sunlight, or moons from 600 calibrated projector beams. Elliot has contributed to the openFrameworks and VVVV creative coding platforms and has released over 100 open source libraries for free on GitHub.

Elliot will give an overview of the technical systems of Kimchi and Chips’ Another Moon : A network of 40 towers that collect sunlight during the day and then project calibrated laser light back into the sky to form a second moon in the sky. The project incorporates mathematical systems, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optical engineering and network engineering. The first half of the lecture will focus on the hardware systems, and the second half will focus on ‘Non linear fitting’ : a set of machine learning systems that can be used to calibrate, measure and control artworks accurately. This technique is used in almost all of Kimchi and Chips artworks to create an additional layer of intention and finesse to their work.

Engineer-researcher at Metalab of SAT. PhD in microprocessor architecture and specialized in embedded computers. 
After several years working in the industry (cell phones, intelligent public displays&#8230;) and while continuing to develop his artistic skills (in composition, sound design, mixing and acoustics), the opportunity arose to combine everything and return to the research field with SAT&#8217;s Metalab. 
His research interests target the reduction of the infrastructure needed to create immersive spaces. Thanks to embedded computing, the costs are greatly reduced (in economic and energy terms) while having a minimal impact on performance. 
At the same time, he participates with the Silicon Beats collective in multiple live cine concerts and electronic music collective jam performances.
Émile Ouellet-Delorme
Developer-researcher at the Metalab of SAT. He joined the team in 2018 after completing two diplomas in software engineering and digital music respectively. Over the past few years, he has worked on software for both visual and audio immersion, and his specialty resides with physical modelling of acoustics. On a personal level, he&#8217;s dabbled with audio composition and improvisation of various styles for over a decade.

Thomas Piquet & Émile Ouellet-Delorme

During this workshop, we will be using off-the-shelf hardware and open-source software to create an interactive and immersive experience from scratch, in an impromptu space. While doing so, we will be learning about the tools and processes available to orchestrate the basic elements such as evaluating the available space, setting up projection mapping, calibrating video projectors and sound equipment and employing a software pipeline to glue it all together. The participants are welcome to contribute their own creative content (video and audio). We will be able to use and display it in our immersive space.

Matt Adams co-founded Blast Theory in 1991. The group make interactive art to explore social and political questions.
Blast Theory has shown work at the Venice Biennale, Sundance Film Festival and Tate Britain. The group collaborate frequently with the Mixed Reality lab at the University of Nottingham and Matt has co-authored 45 academic papers. Awards include the Golden Nica at Prix Ars Electronica, the Nam June Paik Art Center Award and four BAFTA nominations.
Matt has curated at Tate Modern and at the ICA in London. He has lectured at Stanford University, the Royal College of Art and the Sorbonne.

Matt will explain how Blast Theory combine games design, theatrical techniques and contemporary art to make works that are unique in form and invite the public to take risks.
